Sell products over the counter as a job, then invoice and take payment in one place.

NeedsPoint Of Sale enabled? switched on (Settings › Feature › Point Of Sale)
Overview

Cash Sale opens the job form set up for a counter sale. The customer is your point of sale customer and the order number reads CASH SALE. Once you save, the form stays open so you can add the products, invoice them and record the payment straight away.

The job form opened from Cash Sale, with the point of sale customer and CASH SALE as the order number
Step by step: record a cash sale
  1. Click Cash Sale in the header.
  2. Enter the Job Name.
  3. Click SAVE JOB.
  4. Click + Add line under Outstanding Transactions.
  5. Choose the product in Select Product.
  6. Repeat for each product, changing Quantity or Sell Price where you need to.
  7. Tick the Select box on each line.
  8. Click Create Invoice, then Create Invoice again in the dialog.
  9. Click Add payment to record the payment against the new invoice.

Smartworks creates the new invoice in Xero. Creating an invoice and the Add Payment To Invoice dialog work the same way as on the Invoicing screen.

How a cash sale differs from a job

  • Customer starts as the default customer set in Point of sale settings. You can choose another customer.
  • Order Number starts as CASH SALE.
  • After SAVE JOB the form stays open, under the heading Editing Job and the job number, and shows Outstanding Transactions. A cash sale has no Job Images section.
  • The lines hide Cost Price and the markup column. Switch on Show Line Details to show them.

If you change the customer to someone other than the point of sale customer, the form closes on save like an ordinary job. Open the job again from Jobs and Quotes to add its lines.
