Create your first job
Record the work for a customer, ready to book to a team member on the calendar.
A job is a piece of work for one customer. You create it in the Scheduler, then book it to a team member so it appears on their phone. Customers come from your Xero organisation, and a customer you add while creating a job is created in Xero as well.

Step by step: create a job
- Click Create New Job in the header.
- Choose the Customer.
- Choose a Contact for the customer, if you need one.
- Choose an Address for the work.
- Set the Date Required, if the customer needs it by a set date.
- Check the Status.
- Enter a Job Name.
- Describe the work in Job Details.
- Click SAVE JOB.
Smartworks shows Successfully saved job! and closes the form. The job now waits in the Jobs list beside the calendar, ready to book. Click Unassigned above the list to see only the jobs nobody is booked to yet.
SAVE JOB stays greyed out until the form has a Customer and a Job Name.
A customer who is not in Xero yet
Choose Create New Customer at the top of the Customer list. The form swaps the Contact box for four new boxes.

Step by step: add a new customer from a job
- Choose Create New Customer in Customer.
- Enter the New Customer - Name.
- Enter a New Customer - Phone, a New Customer - Email, or both.
- Enter the New Customer - Contact Name.
- Fill in the rest of the job.
- Click SAVE JOB.
When you save the job, Smartworks creates the customer in Xero and links the job to them. The customer then appears in the Customer list for every job after this one.
